Atlanta Community ToolBank

The Atlanta Community ToolBank is a non-profit organization that supports other non-profit groups and community organizations through collaborative home repair and tool lending programs. As their organization has grown, so has the need for a building that embodies their corporate values, provides adequate space for future growth, and provides space for interaction with the local community.

The design proposal renovates and expands the existing facility in a way that expresses the organization’s values. Among the leading design considerations are environmental sustainability, appropriate scale for the residential context, and community inclusion through public meeting space and educational components. The design maintains much of the existing building, which will be renovated to address infrastructure and programmatic requirements. The abundant use of natural light, the collection of rainwater for irrigation, solar photovoltaics, and green roofs contribute to the goal of minimum LEED Gold certification and promote community sustainability education.
