K & M Automotive
The owners of this auto repair business had been operating out of the former gas station facility that had changed little since its construction, probably in the 1960’s. The project involved gutting and converting the existing building and service bays into bright, colorful customer services areas and offices.
A new 2,700 SF six-bay service wing connects the existing building to the renovated existing structure. Generous daylight is provided to the interior through clerestory windows, the majority of which are located on the north side of the building. Shading for windows on the south side of the building is provided via the manipulation of the building’s intersecting brick and metal forms, thereby minimizing direct solar gain and reducing the cooling load of the building.
